Working at Ably means helping to build the infrastructure and technology that will power and shape the future of the internet. Chatting on WhatsApp, hailing an Uber, asking Alexa what the weather will be like tomorrow, working in the same Google Doc as your colleague: all of these things rely on complex, behind-the-scenes realtime infrastructure. That’s what Ably provides for companies like HubSpot, Toyota Racing Development, OfferUp, and Hopin.
We now live in a remote-first world where realtime digital interactions underpin our daily lives. In the near future, Autonomous Vehicles, IoT devices (e.g. connected fridges or environment sensors), and AI-powered experiences will be the norm. But new infrastructure is required to power it all.
The opportunity in front of us is immense. Our mission is to become the definitive realtime infrastructure of the internet while powering and accelerating adoption of realtime user experiences. We’re on track. Everyday we deliver billions of realtime messages to more than 250 million people in 80 different countries across web, mobile, and IoT platforms. But we can’t rest yet. In five years we want to reach one billion people everyday.
We are looking for an experienced Technical Content Writer to join our marketing team and make an immediate impact across the business as we continue our rapid growth. You should have a strong content marketing background, or you could be a technical documentation writer who wishes to transition to content marketing, or a developer who enjoys writing. This role will give the right candidate the opportunity to dive deep into all aspects of technical content marketing at an exciting B2B Enterprise SaaS company.

You might also coordinate and collaborate with external freelancers or agencies to produce content and be involved in content promotion activities.
This role will have company-wide visibility and impact as you’ll collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and the broader Marketing team.
Day to day, you will:
Research, create, write, edit, and update content assets across our various content streams
Work closely with engineers, social media managers, DevRel, sales, external agencies, and the wider marketing team to produce, improve, and disseminate content
Independently determine new topics we could write about and identify new content types / templates we can (re)use
Participate in forming and executing the content strategy at Ably
Experience in delivering impactful long-form technical content (including blog posts, ebooks, software documentation) to technical audiences, and a portfolio to showcase your work
Understanding of developers, software architects, developer ecosystems, how they buy, consume and develop products, and can use that knowledge to create compelling and engaging content
Continuous learner mindset, self-starter, and comfortable working with complex technical concepts
Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities & comfortable working on multiple projects at once
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience working in a fast-paced environment, as part of cross-functional teams
Any development experience (past or present) and the ability to read code
Knowledge of cloud computing, serverless, event-driven architectures & technologies, pub/sub, distributed systems, realtime protocols such as WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, or MQTT
A good understanding of user personas, the stages of the marketing & sales funnel, SEO & content marketing best practices, and content strategy
Experience coordinating / working with external freelancers and content agencies
An active presence on platforms such as Twitter, Medium, or DEV Community (dev.to), and content distribution knowledge
